The Colorado Supreme Court blocked three proposed ballot measures on Monday that sought to suspend the state independent redistricting commission ahead of the 2028 elections.
Chief Justice Monica Marquez wrote that the initiatives violated the state constitutional single-subject requirement because they represented a seismic shift to established voting procedures.
Supporters argued these temporary map changes were necessary, but opponents successfully contended the initiatives fundamentally altered the established redistricting process currently enshrined in the state constitution.
By issuing three unanimous opinions, the court officially prevented these controversial redistricting proposals from advancing to the upcoming November statewide ballot for voters.
