Vice President\u2019s blunder chimed neatly with President Donald Trump\u2019s rhetoric about incorporating the neighboring nation into the United States at a time of high tension between the pair<\/p>\n

Vice President\u00a0JD Vance\u00a0made an embarrassing \u201cFreudian slip\u201d when he described\u00a0Canada\u00a0as a \u201cstate,\u201d rather than a country, as the\u00a0tariff war between the two neighbors\u00a0heats up.<\/p>\n

Vance was campaigning on behalf of Republican House candidate Paul LePage in Brewer,\u00a0Maine, when he addressed the current tensions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to remember, Canada is a state \u2013 sorry, Freudian slip,\u201d the VP\u00a0said, immediately realizing his error when his audience laughed. \u201cThat was actually an accident. Canada is a country.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to accuse America\u2019s neighbor of\u00a0\u201ctaking advantage\u201d of the U.S. on trade\u00a0by providing \u201ca backdoor for Chinese goods\u201d, saying its officials had made \u201ca bunch of unreasonable last-minute demands,\u201d which had derailed their talks.<\/p>\n

Vance further said Canada had\u00a0\u201cunderinvested\u201d in its military\u00a0and would be forced to seek U.S. protection if it were invaded.<\/p>\n
